New POS Hardware & Hours
Components for a 1 Station POS
- POS Computer
- All-in-one PC computer with touchscreen and card reader.
- Cash Drawer
- POS Receipt Printer
- Either a thermal receipt printer or an impact printer or dot matrix receipt printer. To print customer receipts. If you have two printers, it makes sense that they are the same so the supplies are the same.
- POS Kitchen Printer
- The Kitchen Printer should be a dot matrix printer or impact printer to print the chits for the kitchen. The chefs and cooks read the printed chits to know what food needs to be prepared for the customer and how the food is modified. Thermal printers print using heat so they will not perform well in a hot kitchen.
- Credit Card Processing
- PCI Compliant Credit Card Processing.
- POS Software License
- Focus POS is a solid program. This means minimal down time due to having to reboot the system. It is easy to use and maintain and there are many changes you can make to personalize the reports to what you want.
- Software Programming Time
- Eight, 8, hours of programming time is usually all that is needed if we are given a complete and correct menu or inventory list right up front.
- Installation Time
- Two, 2, hours of installation to set up the computers and printers, networking with a server, the internet, credit card reader, etc.
- Training Time
- Four, 4, hours of training for managers and a few staff is enough to get you started using your new system. More hours are available, a la carte.
- Marketing Program
- Gift Cards, Suggestive Selling, Customer Loyalty Program, Employee Swipe Cards, Manager Swipe Cards, and Coupons
- Free Telephone Support
- 90 days of Free Telephone Support, to answer any questions as you begin using your new POS system
- Hardware Warranty
- Three, 3, year warranty on all new hardware

Point of Sale Software
Critical for Every POS System
- Mobile App
- See Live, what is going on at your restaurant while you are away. View sales, individual checks, voids, deletions, who is clocked in, etc.
- Flexible Reporting
- Ability to create your own reports to see What money is coming in and where it is going
- Redundancy
- Every System needs back up software. A good Point of Sales system will back up your software automatically.
- Modify a Modifier
- If a baked potato comes with a steak you need to be able to modify the potato with a choice of butter at no charge, cheese for 25 cents, sour cream for 30 cents, or plain at no charge. These small incremental charges alone will pay for the POS system in a year.
- PCI Compliant
- Your New Point of Sales System must be PCI compliant to keep your customers personal credit card information safe and to avoid the risk of high fines to your restaurant or retail store. One way is to keep your Point of Sale System and the credit card processing separate. Ask your software supplier, What is the cost of PCI updates?
- Credit Card Processing
- There are 3 options for your customers to pay for your products and services. Cash, personal check, or debit cards and credit cards.
- Programming Time
- Your New Point of Sales System will need to be specially programmed with your items and modifiers. Programming time can be expensive but remember that it will take you 3 to 4 hours to program yourself, for every hour that a professional program will require to do the same thing. This not a good area to cut costs. You want your POS programmed correctly and ready to go so you can spend your time with customers and your staff, not programming modifiers.
- Supplying Your Menu or Inventory List
- Junk In = Junk Out. The menu or inventory list, prices, and modifiers or sales prices, all need to be accurate. The programmer can only follow the information given. The correct prices and information is key to a quality Point of Sale System.
- Training Time
- Properly training your staff and managers is important. Be sure there are enough hours of training included in your Point of Sales package and make attendance mandatory for all staff and managers. Assume 2 to 4 hours for a simple to use system like Focus POS. For a more complex system, with many clicks per transaction, you may need 6 to 8 hours for training.
