FREE DIY Support for POS Systems. When your POS System is down
for Restaurants and Retail DIY
These are general answers and refer to all POS computers available on the market.
- Here is a list of the most common causes of service support calls
- Save yourself some money and check these items before you call for service
- Is your internet service working? If not, call your internet provider
- Are all the computers and printers plugged in? Check BOTH ends
- Are all the cables connected? Check BOTH ends of all cables
- Remember, just washing the counter around the computer can jiggle and loosen the cables
- Seriously, you do not want to pay someone to come out and connect a cable for you.
- Have the credit cards batched? If not, call your credit card contact
- Is the server properly connected and plugged in?
- Reset the server
- Do all the printers have paper? and ink or ribbon?
- Is your computer anti-virus up to date? Surfing the web with your POS computer is not recommended. Viruses from web surfing may take the system down and quickly spread, through your network, to all your stations.
- After you have checked all of the above, try the following
- Turn each computer or station off, wait 10 seconds, turn each computer or station back on
- If a computer, server, or station will not turn back on, check the cable or swap cables with one you know works
- Look on the screen. Are there any flashing signals or warnings? This may tell you what to do
- Shut all the stations off. Turn on the main or server station. Is it working? Turn on one additional station at a time and see if it is working?
- If water has splashed inside a computer or station, shut it off immediately and wait until it has completely dried to turn it back on. This could take several days or weeks.
- Other than getting water in your computer, NEVER shut the computer down hard. Always click shut down on the screen to allow the computer to shut itself off. Shutting the computer off, hard or dirty, can corrupt Windows, your data, and other software. Hard shutdowns may also harm your hard drive and drivers.
